time.and again.

that sand
sentenced
to incarceration
in a sand clock

turned
upside
down
time
and again

emitting a false sense
of romantic escapism
as it flows

but in actuality
it sears
like a nerve-wrecked
prisoner
conditioned
into a helpless to and fro

from the top half
it freely falls
only to settle
in a heap
at the bottom

and then
is turned
again

while it remains
a picture of serenity
for many
of time
ever flowing

within
each grain of sand
is just trying hard
to cling
to the one
next to it
to avoid
a feeling of isolation

a perfect paradox
a cruel practical joke

it shows
the passing of time
but for it
nothing changes

entrapped
behind glass
movement
defeated
by the eternal stillness
of status quo
